A revolutionary new imaging technology is expected to help physicians better classify breast lesions. Elasticity imaging is an ultrasound technique recently cleared by the FDA that allows doctors to measure the stiffness of tissue, relative to surrounding areas. This new technique may significantly reduce the need for biopsies. In fact, the American Cancer Society confirms only 20 percent of biopsies turn up positive for cancer.rnrnIn a recent elasticity imaging study, doctors studied 166 suspected breast tumors in 99 women scheduled for biopsies. The lesions were measured using both the standard ultrasound technique and elasticity ultrasound. The results showed that elasticity imaging correctly identified all 17 malignant lesions and 105 of 106 benign lesions.rnrnAdditional studies on elasticity imaging are currently underway. Doctors say thanks to this new technology the number of biopsies being performed may be reduced by 50 to 70%, greatly relieving patients of the stress and trauma of enduring invasive and unnecessary procedures.rnProduced for Siemens </td>

Forerunners offers bone cancer surgery in India at a very affordable cost at cancer surgery clinics of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad. The hospitals providing bone cancer surgery in India are surgically advanced. Bone cancer surgery is the most common bone cancer treatment. Although amputation of a limb is sometimes necessary, chemotherapy has made limb-sparing bone cancer surgery easy in many cases. In bone cancer surgery the surgeon will avoid amputation by removing only the cancerous section of the bone and replacing it with an artificial device called a prosthesis. In a few cases, an arm or leg may have to be removed to eliminate cancer totally. Bone cancer surgery in India is given at a fraction of cost than in U.S and U.K. Medical tourism provides access to the most well trained cancer surgeons for bone cancer surgery in India. The motor cortex is the area in the brain which issues orders for body movement, and therefore, controls the voluntary muscle system of the body. The nerve impulses pass from the cortex and travel into the brain stem, along bundles of nerve fibers which cross in the medulla oblongata. Impulses from the right side of the brain thus control the left side of the body, and vice versa. The nerve impulses then pass from the medulla oblongata to fibers in the spinal cord and leave at each section as the motor roots to form the spinal nerves, which transmit the impulses to the muscles. Involuntary muscle movements are controlled by the autonomic nerves, which leave the motor root and then pass to nearby nerve chains. </td>

Part 2 of the film made in collaboration with BBC World and Rockhopper TV as part of the Survivors Guide series. The aim of the project was to create a documentary film on reducing the effects of HIV/AIDS stigma and discrimination and was filmed in Nigeria.

The Commonwealth Secretariats health section works to assist member countries in addressing the challenges in HIV/AIDS. Of the 42 million people, globally, living with HIV/AIDS, 60 per cent are to be found in the Commonwealth. Fear, ignorance and blame fuel stigma and discrimination and further marginalise people living with HIV/AIDS and this film aims to diminish these forces and encourage those suffering with the illness in the West African region, and worldwide, to seek support and continue living fulfilling lives.

The brain has three major functional and anatomical parts--the forebrain, midbrain and hindbrain. The forebrain consists of the cerebral hemispheres, thalami, hypothalamus and limbic system. The top inch of the brain stem is the midbrain. The hindbrain includes the cerebellum, the pons and the medulla. Other parts of the brain&#8217;s anatomy include: the cerebral cortex, a thin layer of nerve cells on the surface of the cerebral hemispheres; the cerebrum, composed of many millions of nerve fibers, is covered by the cerebral cortex; the corpus callosum, a C-shaped collection of fibers, forms a bridge between the left and right hemispheres; the thalamus, which relays and receives messages to and from other areas of the brain; the limbic system, concerned with memory and emotion; the cerebellum, the largest part of the hindbrain and responsible for balance and the fine control of muscle movements; and the hypothalamus, which lies below the third ventricle of the brain, and regulates many of the body&#8217;s functions and the activity of the pituitary gland. </td>

        <a href="http://www.cancervideo.tv/video/G3O299YX3M9M/AIDS-Survivors-Guide">AIDS Survivors Guide</a><br />
This film was made in collaboration with BBC World and Rockhopper TV as part of theSurvivors Guide series.

</td>

An initial single-arm Phase II trial (ACT II) has reported promising preliminary data in 23 patients who received CDX-110 vaccine. Median time to disease progression was 16.6 months and estimated median overall survival was 33.1 months. This compared favorably with data for a historical control group in which median time to progression was 6.4 months and median overall survival was 15.2 months.

The study was sponsored by Celldex Therapeutics Inc. of Phillipsburg, NJ. </td>

Then, after you're asleep, your doctor will make a small, vertical incision in your navel.
Using a pair of small retractors, the surgeon will gently open the incision and divide the exposed tissues.
Sutures resembling a purse string are placed in the skin around the navel.
Next, a special instrument called a Hassan Trocar is inserted through the opening in the navel.
The purse string sutures are pulled, causing the skin to tighten around the instrument. This creates an airtight seal. Medical Malpractice
The team then connects the Trocar to a small hose ...

... in order to inflate the abdomen with carbon dioxide. This serves to enlarge the internal work area and to separate the organs.
They will make three or more incisions into the abdomen, with care taken to keep the openings as small as possible.
Next, the laparoscope is carefully inserted into the Hassan Trocar. Once the laparoscope is in place, it will provide video images to allow the placement of additional instruments.
The surgeon will then locate and retract the liver to identify the gallbladder.
Next, the surgeon removes the connecting tissue in order to expose the cystic duct and the cystic artery... Medical Malpractice
Using clips, the surgical teams clamps off both the duct and artery
which are later cut to prepare the gallbladder for removal. ...
Finally, any remaining tissue connecting the gallbladder to the liver is cut...
The gallbladders is moved into the laparoscopic working port
where it is taken out of the body.
Then the instruments are withdrawn...
the carbon dioxide is allowed to escape...
the muscle layers and other tissues are sewn together...
and the skin is closed with sutures or staples.
Finally, a sterile dressing is applied. </td>

I don't think I would've had an experienced team of doctors and scientists like that anywhere else, she says. M. D. Anderson has been known for making cancer history. Well, seven years ago, they made my cancer history. </td>

Anal cancer is a type of cancer which arises from the anus, the distal orifice of the gastrointestinal tract. It is a distinct entity from the more common colorectal cancer. The etiology, risk factors, clinical progression, staging, and treatment are all different. The cerebellum, part of the hindbrain, is concerned with the regulation of coordination and balance. It is an oval-shaped structure with a central furrow, which is flanked on either side by a bulbous lobe. The furrow is called the vermis and the expanded lobes the hemispheres. The surface is covered with folds, or folia. In the illustration presented, a section through a folium has been drawn out and cut through to show its internal structure. The outer region of the cerebellum is known as the cortex, or gray matter. It contains two distinct layers of nerve cells, the molecular layer-containing stellate and basket cells, which process information within the cortex, and the granular layer-containing small granule cells and Golgi cells, which sift incoming information. The layers are separated from each other by a layer of purknje cells, which carry information concerning body movement out of the cerebellum. Beneath the cortex lies the white matter, which is composed of nerve fibers, mossy fibers and climbing fibers that pass in and out of the cerebellum. The Mossy fibers are a major route for information entering the cerebellum, while the climbing fibers carry information to the cells in the molecular layer of the cerebellar cortex. The cerebellum lies below the occipital lobes of the brain&#8217;s cerebral hemispheres. </td>
